Haven’t been able to just sit down and ponder as much as I would love to these days – I have always been a firm believer of going against the tide especially when things could so easily spiral out of control these days. Imagine if you were floating on a flowing river, if you just let the current take you wherever it goes, you might end up in a gorge or dashed against the rocks. At times you just need to put your foot down and look around you, take the time to seek clarity in your next steps and re-charge, appreciate what you have.

Just some thoughts on a rainy day… I’m going to start by rekindling first loves and avoiding the bitter-trap! How about you?

Get to know Jon through this article on the Straits Times (SG) Life! Section 23 Nov 2011 by Melissa Kok!

It has been a week or so since the launch of “Beauty in the Small Things” and I am TRULY grateful and encouraged by the response so far – I constantly remind myself of what motivates me and the importance of ‘feeding’ and keeping my art alive, as like the joy I experienced learning the guitar as a 15-year old hour upon hour until my fingers bled, the energy I expended to write the 100th version of a poem I wanted to impress a girl with, the long walks along the Charles river in Boston during the bitter cold winter seeking inspiration for song at the expense of frozen ears and feet!

I have this funny habit of staring into drains/rivers/piers when I walk past and trying to spot fish swimming – I find this very enjoyable and I believe it started from the days of my childhood when I used to catch fish in drains every other evening with my cousin (we were darn good at it!). In retrospect, something as mundane as that taught me about the Beauty in the Small Things!

I bet a lot of you didn’t know this but the monsoon drains in Singapore are among the cleanest I have seen! And there is a wide variety of fish, visible because the water is so clear! So do stop and take a look the next time you walk by and let me know if you find the lil (sometimes big!) ones

“Beauty in the Small Things” is about slowing down and taking time to appreciate the details that we so often miss or fail to remember when too caught up in our pursuit of the bigger seemingly more important things, and also to be able to see the positive amongst the cynicism and dullness. Since beginning the journey of writing and recording demos for this album about a year and a half ago, I have relived the experiences from where the songs drew inspiration – being separated from a loved one, being madly in love, putting myself in the shoes of the misunderstood, questioning the important things in life and what I want to do with mine. This had a profound effect on me and whether you are a musician or not, I hope that you will find something in this album that will touch your heart and inspire you in your life’s journey. Hours upon hours have been spent on each song over a period of close to 6 months and I went into this not wanting any song to be merely an album ‘filler’!

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your support and belief in my music; after all, it is all about reaching out to YOU the listener! If you share the same passion as I, do spread the word to as many as possible. This will go a long way in encouraging me to keep doing what I do!
